My number one tip to save money while looking fabulous: shop the sales.
Every clothing store has sales - and they have them more often than you would think. You can pretty much bet that a store will have a sale around a major holiday (Christmas, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc.), but what you probably don't realize is that stores will also have sales between the holidays to draw in customers. If I walk into a store and they are not having a sale, I only have to wait a week or two to come back and save big.
Shopping the sales will save your wallet. By planning ahead you can save 20%-40% on fabulous items that you were going to purchase anyway. Such big savings just means that you can buy even more to put into your closet.
The other day I was at the Irvine Spectrum and as I was walking by Ann Taylor I noticed several big red signs in the window declaring 40% off the entire store. Well, I wasn't planning to do any shopping that day, but I knew I needed a few pieces and may be able to score a deal. And I did! I purchased three pairs of pants, originally $60, for 40% off. I also opened a store credit card and received an additional 15% off. (I'll talk more about the pros and cons of store credit cards in another post). That's a total savings of $89!!
So what's today's lesson? Start putting your shopping money aside and save it for the sales. Then when your favorite store announces a Friday-Sunday blow-out-everything-must-go-once-in-a-life-time-sale-event, you'll be ready to save big and look chic doing it.
